Student Assistant on Agricultural Land Use and Remote Sensing
Postgraduate (M.Sc. or M.A. student), 6 months, ca. 40h per month,
from July 1st, 2022; (with the possibility of a 6 months extension)
The Student Assistant will work with the Junior Research Group TRANSECT (Agrarian Transformations and Social-Ecological Complexities - Local Bioeconomy Scenarios in Central and South Asia) funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) at Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNE Eberswalde, Germany). The Junior Research Group investigates the social-ecological effects and interdependencies of agrarian transformations in Central and South Asia.
Within the project, the Student Assistant will be concerned with mapping agricultural land cover, using remote sensing data (e.g. Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8). Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
The candidate ideally should have a training in remote sensing and should be able to work independently under the supervision of the TRANSECT team.

Pengshan Pan is a PhD candidate at the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. His fields are international political economy and development. His research focuses on international development and political economy, especially in Central and South Asia. In particular, he explores the interlinkages between foreign direct investment, nature and conflict. He is broadly interested in industrial policies in post-communist countries and China's footprint in Eurasia.
