Participatory Workshop in Kazakhastan

19 November 2024
On October 28 and 29, 2024, TRANSECT in cooperation with the German-Kazakh University organized a workshop on participatory methods in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The transdisciplinary workshop entitled "Participatory approaches to natural resource management and rural development in Central Asia" brought together representatives from research, practice (especially development organizations and NGOs) and state institutions from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The workshop served to exchange experiences and critically discuss participatory approaches in planning, research and project management in the fields of agriculture, bioeconomy and rural development in Central Asia.
In addition to networking and creating a "community of practice", the aim was also to transfer research findings and experience from the TRANSECT junior research group, which has carried out extensive stakeholder workshops as part of its research activities in the field of agriculture, particularly with small farmers in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. Using various formats (lectures and panel discussions, world café and expert groups), the workshop provided the participants with a wide range of new insights as well as new contacts and partnerships for future research and practical projects.
